We’ve released more CFC videos

We just wanted to let you know that we’ve just posted a handful of new videos on our website! Adding to our existing set which includes policy overview videos for much of our tech suite, RES, A&M, LTC and MD as well as technical briefings such as business interruption and breach of contract, we’ve recently added a PRO product information video and a video which explores vicarious liability and how it affects recruitment agencies. In addition, there is now a 2-part video series which clarifies the subtleties between “claims made” and “claims made and reported” and how CFC addresses this part of cover.

It’s not as easy as it looks, however. We’ve also posted our first bloopers video. Whilst browsing the video selection on our website, make sure you watch us make fools of ourselves and please excuse our language!

Check back periodically as this section of our website will be continually updated with new material. You can expect more to trickle out in the coming months. Enjoy!

CFC shortlisted in the 2011 Insurance Times Awards

CFC shortlisted in the 2011 Insurance Times AwardsWe are very proud to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the Insurance Times Insurer Innovation Award 2011 alongside Chartis, Aviva, RBS and Zurich.

Graeme Newman, director at CFC commented: “It’s great to have been shortlisted for this award. Innovation is an integral part of what we do, with every single product, so it’s particularly pleasing to be recognised for it. Although we still have a little while to wait until the winner is announced, and clearly we’d love that to be us, we take great heart from being chosen out of many entries to feature as one of just 5 on the shortlist.”

The final stage of the awards process is a face-to-face presentation to the judges, following which the winners will be announced in a ceremony in London on December 6th.

AWR updates to our recruitment product

AWR updates to our recruitment productThe new UK Agency Worker Regulations came into effect on October 1st. In response, CFC has made some key updates to its recruitment policy (RES) wording.

In an effort to keep employers from exploiting temporary workers, the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) which came into effect last week will give those on shorter term contracts that same rights as permanent staff in the same position after 12 weeks. This includes everything from pay to holiday allowance.

Although the new regulations have good intentions at heart, the implications are nonetheless concerning recruiters. Temporary recruitment agencies in the UK are going to have to change their procedures and train their staff accordingly to ensure they comply with the AWR.

This creates a new insurance requirement because agencies will be exposed to financial loss if they fail to comply. However, we at CFC have recently updated our RES wording to provide cover for any unintentional breaches of the AWR. This cover attaches to the professional indemnity insuring clause and is included at no extra cost.

Not in the UK? We have news for you too! We’ve removed the non-standard contract exclusion in RES policies worldwide to help clarify our actual underwriting intent and make it really clear that we can cover recruitment firms even when they are not working on their own standard terms of business.

To find out more about the AWR, how it affects the liability of recruitment agencies and what CFC is doing to cover these exposures, feel free to email us with any questions you may have.

Broker auctions continue to be a hit

Broker auctions continue to be a hitWe have recently completed our third monthly broker auction and it was another hit! With hundreds of votes cast, it was a narrow win on most items which included everything from football tickets and a classic Polaroid camera to hampers and champagne.

Still the most popular item to bid on by far is the CFC Surprise Prize. This month, the lucky winner was awarded a lovely large poster of The Hoff in all his glory. Congratulations! We’re so happy this bronzed god can adorn your wall. Next month, who knows? It could be a desirable gadget or a glossy picture of Cliff Richard. We can’t say but hope you’ll keep trying your luck!

Next month’s auction will begin on Monday, October 3rd, and the prizes will be posted shortly so you can take a sneak peek before bidding opens. If you don’t know your broker login details or if you would like more information about our broker loyalty program, please click here to email us.

We finished – mostly!

We finished - mostly! CFC Underwriting in the London TriathlonGlory might not have been ours, but we’re proud to say that over half of CFC participated in the 2011 London Triathlon in order to raise a pile of money for 3 great charities.

Thank you to everyone who helped us raise over £2700 (over £3100 with gift aid). Your support is so appreciated and was a real inspiration, especially when it came to jumping into that cold water, whizzing to overtake someone during the cycle and finishing that last painful kilometer on the run. We’re sure Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, Cancer Research UK and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research appreciate it even more.

OK, so you’re after results aren’t you? Let’s start with the good news first. Two of our teams, the two made up of three fit and healthy youngsters, placed 24th and 65th out of 157 sprint distance team relay teams with times of 1:25:37 and 1:34:39, respectively. A third team consisting of 3 of CFC’s 5 directors wasn’t terrible either, considering! Their time was 1:39:22. The rest, well… there were a few mishaps.

Apparently, you’re supposed to do two laps in the cycling and running sections. This teeny tiny detail meant a few of our teams were annoyingly disqualified! It’s frankly ridiculous that the organisers expect you to cycle and run the full distance.

The best story, however, comes from the first part of the race, the swim. Equipped with wetsuit and lovely red swimming cap, CFC swimmers braved the opaque waters of the East End docks. The buzzer sounded and the mad rush began. After approximately one minute, a hand shoots into the air, and a round, bearded man is pulled from the water by several of the 120 lifeguards on watch as a giggling audience looks on. One CFC swimmer is caught behind the boats, but manages to free herself and finally, everyone is off.

Too bad really that the round, bearded man was actually one of CFC’s very own, business development manager Scott Sayce, suffering from a cramp. There’s speculation that it had to do with the single practice swim he did before the race, but we’re not sure if the two events are connected. What we can say is that he tried, as did everyone who participated, and we’re proud that because of these efforts, no matter how hilarious, we’ve hopefully helped towards some great, life-saving causes.

It’s not too late to donate. Our donation page is still open, so if you’d like to contribute and learn more about the charities we’re supporting, simply click here. Hopefully, we’ve started a bit of a CFC fitness revolution. Considering how fun and funny it was this year, we’re already looking forward to next year!
